ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses and organizations to donate items for welcome bags that will be given to new employees in Rochelle school districts as they prepare for the new school year. Donations such as gift cards, promotional items, stationery, coupons and other business materials should be dropped off at the Chamber office, 320 Lincoln Highway, by Aug. 5 so volunteers have time to prepare 25 welcome bags before staff orientation ends. Each bag will also include $10 in Community Cash donated by the Chamber to encourage recipients to support local businesses.
“We have done this for about five or six years now, and we don’t limit it to teachers. So it’s any new staff in either of the districts,” said Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tricia Herrera. “We also add $10 of community cash that we donate to put in there so that they can use that to support a local business, and we’re really looking for anything.”
The Chamber is asking donors to provide enough items to fill all 25 welcome bags before the Aug. 5 deadline.
