CHICAGO — Governor Pritzker will be signing a law to designate Emmett Till Day in Illinois. The signing will take place today at Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ in Chicago. Emmett Till was a 14-year-old Black child from Chicago who was kidnapped, beaten and brutally murdered in Mississippi by white supremacists in 1955. Roberts Temple was the site where his body was displayed in an open casket for his funeral, which launched the modern Civil Rights Movement. The church is recognized as a national monument.
