(Baltimore, MD) — For the first time in the history of horse racing’s Triple Crown, a race will be run on a Sunday.
The Maryland Jockey Club announced that the Preakness Stakes is moving to three weeks and a day after the Kentucky Derby, beginning next year. The second jewel of the Triple Crown has been held two weeks after the Derby in nearly every year since 1950, but many trainers are choosing to skip the race to give their thoroughbreds more time to recover, then run in the Belmont Stakes.
