Park District Expands Pickleball and Public Tennis Access

ROCHELLE — The Flagg Rochelle Park District is expanding recreational opportunities through improvements at the REC Center and a new agreement with Rochelle Township High School. Board members approved adding pickleball court lines at the REC Center after adjusting the original project to reduce the cost by about half of the initial estimate. The proposed intergovernmental agreement with the high school will also give the public access to the four west tennis courts on the high school campus once the agreement is finalized. District officials said the courts will remain open for public use except during school practices and events, with student activities receiving priority on weekdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The high school will continue maintaining the courts, and signage will be installed to direct players to the public entrance and explain when the courts are unavailable. The current courts across the street from the REC Center will eventually be removed during the construction of the new 40,000 square foot fieldhouse.
