ROCHELLE — The Flagg Rochelle Park District and Rochelle Township High School are moving forward with a proposed intergovernmental agreement to build a new indoor recreation and athletics facility with an estimated cost of $9 million. Park District Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger told board members Monday the school district would pay about two thirds of the construction costs, while the park district would cover the remaining one third and own, operate and maintain the building. The agreement would also give the park district access to the four west tennis courts at Rochelle Township High School while the project is being developed. Once completed, the facility will be used by students, park district programs and the community.
“We received qualifications from three different firms earlier this month, and our committees are reviewing those to select a firm in August,” Ohlinger said. “All of our conversations with the school district have been positive, and we have the same vision moving forward.”
Ohlinger said the selected firm will begin work on the design with a final concept expected this fall. School and park district leaders said the partnership will allow both agencies to share resources and expand recreation opportunities for the community.
