OREGON — The Oregon City Council introduced Destini Benesh as the city’s new Main Street director after a search that drew 41 applicants. City Manager Darin DeHaan said a committee interviewed the top five candidates and selected Benesh because of her experience with small businesses, leadership as president of Autumn on Parade, communication skills, and creativity. Benesh will begin the job this week and will oversee the Heart of Oregon Main Street program, which supports downtown businesses, events, volunteer efforts, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, and partnerships. City leaders encouraged council members to meet with Benesh to share ideas for the position as she begins work. The city created the position earlier this year to strengthen downtown development and business growth.
