OREGON — The Oregon City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance authorizing the acquisition of the property at 125 S. Third St. within the city’s Tax Increment Financing district, advancing a redevelopment plan first approved last month. In May, the council approved a purchase agreement to buy the property from Richard Haan for $49,000 using TIF funds. City Manager Darin DeHaan said at the time the purchase fits the city’s long term plans for South Third Street and could provide space for a farmers market, community events, or other public uses. A committee is expected to help determine the final use of the site. The home on the property will be demolished after the former residents moved out. The ordinance approved Tuesday formally authorizes the city to acquire the property and use it as part of redevelopment efforts within the TIF district. The measure also allows city officials to complete the purchase and take any necessary legal steps to secure ownership if needed.
