SYCAMORE – A 35-year-old man accused of killing his parents in Sycamore last September is unfit to stand trial. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office say Gary and Holly Schmidt were found dead on September 30th in a home in the 1300 block of Oakland Drive. Investigators believe they were killed by blunt force trauma. The couple’s son, Kevin Schmidt, was arrested in Rockford on four counts of first-degree murder. Court records show a judge found Schmidt to be mentally incompetent at the start of his jury fitness trial this week.
