DeKalb Township Urges Residents to Review Electric Supply Rates After Price Changes

DEKALB — DeKalb Township is encouraging residents to review their electricity supply rates following changes that took effect June 1. Township officials said Commonwealth Edison is expected to offer the lowest residential electricity supply rate in DeKalb County at 10.399 cents per kilowatt-hour. The recommendation comes as many residents who switched to alternative energy suppliers may now be paying higher rates after introductory offers expired. According to the Citizens Utility Board, Illinois consumers have paid more than $2 billion in excess electricity supply charges since 2015 after enrolling with alternative suppliers. To help residents better understand their bills and identify potential savings, DeKalb Township and the DeKalb Public Library will host a free Home Energy Presentation on June 10 at the library and a free Utility Bill Clinic on June 17 at the township office. The clinic requires appointments, which can be scheduled by calling 815-758-8282. Township officials encourage residents to compare their current electricity supply rate with ComEd’s rate and explore options that could reduce their energy costs.
