Attorney General Raoul Joins Bipartisan Call to Keep Federal Hemp Rules

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a bipartisan coalition of 35 attorneys general in urging Congress to keep the federal definition of hemp adopted in November 2025. The coalition said the change closed a loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill that allowed unregulated intoxicating hemp products to spread nationwide. The attorneys general warned that reversing the change would create regulatory uncertainty, disrupt businesses that have already complied with the law and allow those products to return to the marketplace.
