Illinois Expands Farmers Market Benefits for Eligible Seniors

SPRINGFIELD — Low income Illinois seniors can receive up to $40 in benefits to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, cut herbs and harvested honey through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program this season. The program, administered by the Illinois Department on Aging and Illinois Department of Human Services, increased the benefit from $25 last year to four $10 checks for 2026. Eligible participants must be at least 60 years old and have a household income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level. Benefits are available on a first come, first served basis and can be used through Oct. 31 at participating farmers markets and roadside stands in 37 Illinois counties.
