WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood released a new report detailing the impact of her Farmers Fighting Climate Change Act, which she said has expanded conservation efforts and support for farmers since it was enacted four years ago. Underwood said the law, signed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, helps compensate farmers for conservation practices through the USDA Conservation Stewardship Program. According to the report, more than $3.25 billion has been made available for sustainable farming practices, with more than 11 million acres enrolled nationwide and more than $65 million directed to Illinois farmers. Underwood said the program is helping farmers manage flooding, improve soil health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting long term agricultural resilience.
