Sports Betting Lobby Files Lawsuit Against Chicago’s New Sports Gaming Tax

CHICAGO —  The Sport Betting Alliance is trying to put the brakes on a recently passed Chicago tax on sports betting that goes into effect tomorrow.  Joe Maloney with the lobbying group filed a lawsuit against the city claiming the tax that is part of the new budget is unconstitutional.  He adds that only the state has the right to tax online sports betting, and he could shut down their operations in Chicago.  The tax measure requires a new license for all operators and tax online bets in the city at ten-point-25 percent.
