Oregon Adds Experienced Officer to Police Department

OREGON — Officer John Kaltenbach was sworn in Tuesday as a part-time officer with the Oregon Police Department. Kaltenbach retired from the Rochelle Police Department in 2024 after 21 years on the force, serving as a sergeant and detective. He will help cover shifts and ease overtime demands on the full-time staff while the department continues to fill a vacant full-time position and accommodate an officer on extended military leave. Officials said his experience and long history of community service will be a strong asset for the department.

Oregon Mayor Ken Williams said they were eager to get some staffing relief.

“We’re glad to have you join us. I think your skills will be very much appreciated as you come on board. I see the number of other officers are here, just waiting so they don’t have to do as much overtime.”
