Ogle County Property Tax And EAV Data Presented To County Board

OREGON — Ogle County Board members heard a presentation this week from Blackhawk Hills Regional Council staff member Andy Shaw outlining how the county compares statewide on property taxes and equalized assessed value using 2023 tax data and 2020 census figures. The analysis showed Ogle County ranks 22nd out of 102 Illinois counties for total equalized assessed value at about $6 billion and 25th for county only property tax collections at nearly $13.7 million. On a per capita basis, the county ranked 10th statewide for equalized assessed value per person, reflecting a strong tax base relative to population. County residents pay about $264 per person in county property taxes, ranking 35th statewide, while the county property tax rate was among the lowest in Illinois at about 0.678 percent, ranking 85th.

Shaw noted Ogle County is in a unique position.

“ As a county, the tax rates are extremely low. We see much higher rates in other parts of the state,” he said. “The advantages of having industrial development, especially the nuclear plant, but also the large amount of industrial activity in Rochelle, make that rate much lower than in counties that don’t have that type of activity going on.”

The breakdown by property type showed industrial property accounts for about 32 percent of total valuation, residential about 40 percent, and commercial about 9 percent, indicating Ogle County relies less on commercial property taxes than many counties and benefits from a comparatively strong industrial base.
