LaHood Introduces Bill To Expand Health Savings Account Access

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood has introduced the Health Savings for Families Act, which would allow people to continue contributing to a Health Savings Account even if their spouse is enrolled in a Flexible Spending Arrangement. Under current law, a spouse’s eligibility for a Flexible Spending Arrangement can prevent an otherwise eligible person from contributing to a Health Savings Account, even when each spouse has separate health insurance coverage. LaHood said the bill would remove that restriction and give families more flexibility and control over how they manage their health care expenses.
