SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs has announced a new Hunger Relief Grant Program that will provide up to $5,000 to volunteer-run food pantries, soup kitchens and similar nonprofit groups with no full-time employees. Applications are being accepted through July 31. Frerichs said the program was created to help organizations facing increased demand following federal cuts to food assistance programs and rising food costs. Funding comes from nonprofit filing fees and not taxpayer dollars.
