CHICAGO – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul asked a federal court to enforce its injunction blocking the Trump administration from requiring states to turn over personal information of millions of SNAP recipients. Raoul and 20 other attorneys general said the administration’s renewed demand violates the court order and federal law and could expose sensitive data including names, birth dates, addresses, Social Security numbers, and immigration status. The lawsuit says the data could be used for immigration enforcement or other surveillance and threatens billions in SNAP benefits that support nearly 2 million Illinois residents, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities. The coalition is asking the court to stop the administration from enforcing the data request so states can continue protecting recipients’ private information.
