SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources wants to remind snowmobile riders to focus on safety this winter when snowfall allows for snowmobile riding. Safety tips include never consuming drugs or alcohol before a ride, wearing a helmet and goggles, plus knowing the terrain where you are going to be traveling.
“Snowmobile operators should carefully review their safety checklist before hitting the trails this winter,” said Jeff Hopkins, IDNR Safety Education Administrator.
Snowmobilers should never ride alone and be careful when crossing roads. Drawing is one of the leading causes of snowmobile fatalities, so riders should avoid bodies of water they are not familiar with.
