SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is warning federal ICE agents about swapping or altering license plates. Giannoulias says swapping out license plates or tampering with them to avoid detection is illegal. The warning comes in response to a video that surfaced online that appears to show an ICE agent telling the bystander filming that they change their plates out every day. Giannoulias has created a Plate Watch Hotline to allow people to report instances of license plate tampering.
