OREGON — The Ogle County Highway Department said road work underway on German Church Road is not connected to rumored AI data centers or other development in the area. County officials said the resurfacing project between the City of Byron and the nuclear power plant has been planned since 2020 and was delayed while waiting for funding. The department said the road has not been paved in more than 20 years. Officials also said paved shoulders were added to improve safety, but limited space along parts of the roadway required work on 21 culverts before paving can begin. The county thanked residents for their patience during construction and apologized to people living along German Church Road for disruptions caused by moving road closures.
