MOLINE — Federal funding for a passenger rail project that would connect Moline and Chicago has been extended to 2032. The 177-million dollars in funding for the project was secured in 2010 and the deadline to use it has been extended multiple times. The most recent extension expired at the end of July, but the Federal Railroad Administration has approved another extension through August 2032. The project has experienced delays for years as the Illinois DOT and Iowa Interstate Railroad have struggled to reach an agreement on upgrades to a 55-mile stretch of tracks. No timeline has been released on when construction could begin.
