SAVANNA — House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro recently toured Ogle County farms as part of the Illinois Farm Bureau’s Adopt a Legislator program. The lawmakers visited Bocker/Ruff Farm in Polo to learn about grain operations, met with FFA students at Polo Community High School and toured Deuth Farm to see grain, cattle and hog operations. The program began in 2001 to build relationships between urban lawmakers and farmers across Illinois. Ogle County Farm Bureau members guided the tour and discussed farming operations and issues affecting the agricultural industry. Sanalitro represents a suburban district that includes portions of several communities in the Chicago area. The visit gave her an opportunity to learn more about agriculture and meet local farm families. McCombie said the tours help lawmakers better understand farmers’ challenges and the priorities of future agricultural leaders as the legislature prepares to return to Springfield next month.
