ROCHELLE — Construction begins Monday on Rochelle’s downtown stage, outdoor gathering space, and parking lots as part of a long-term redevelopment project. The first phase will close Lot 4, across from the Fire Department, until December 2026 for retaining wall and excavation work. In spring 2026, work will expand to Lots 1, 2, and 3, the adjacent alley, and Fourth Avenue between Main and 6th streets for storm sewer installation. Construction on a new parking lot at 2nd Avenue and Washington Street also begins Monday. Starting in early November, Helm Group will place power lines underground in downtown alleys between 4th and 6th avenues, with intermittent daytime closures expected.
