DEKALB – Temporary Chair Alderman Mike Verbic has proclaimed Sept. 20, 2026, as “Be The One” Day in DeKalb to raise awareness of veteran suicide prevention. The proclamation notes that 18 to 22 military affiliated Americans are lost to suicide each day and veterans face a 58% higher suicide risk than those who have not served. The DeKalb American Legion Post 66, along with AMVETS, the VFW and other community organizations, will participate in the Be The One Walk on Sept. 20 as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
