DeKalb Drops Roundabout Plan at North First and Sycamore Roads

DEKALB — DeKalb city officials could be abandoning plans for a roundabout at North First Street and Sycamore Road after months of public opposition. The DeKalb City Council in January approved engineering work for the project, funded mostly by state and federal safety grants, but now plans to keep the intersection signalized. The new design will add a southbound left turn lane onto Fisk Avenue, maintain two southbound lanes along Clinton Rosette Middle School, and realign northbound traffic to eliminate the current lane merge near Pine Street. City staff and Wills Burke Kelsey Associates will present the revised plan for council discussion Monday, with input also being sought from school district officials.
