Byron Woman Cited After Two Vehicle Crash Near Leaf River

LEAF RIVER — A Byron woman was cited after a two-vehicle crash around noon Wednesday at Illinois Route 72 and North Pecatonica Road in Leaf River. The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office said the 35-year-old woman allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, causing her SUV to be hit by a westbound pickup driven by a 60-year-old Lanark man. The SUV overturned and struck a utility pole, which was severed in half. The woman was taken to Swedish American Hospital with minor injuries and cited for disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed, and operating an uninsured vehicle. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, and Byron and Leaf River fire crews assisted at the scene.
