BYRON — The annual Byron Chamber ChiliFest will fill downtown with food and family activities this morning from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring chili tasting, live music, and entertainment for children. Tasting begins at noon with a performance from Tall Expectations, and attendees can sample a variety of chili recipes before voting for the People’s Choice Award. Tickets are $10, with children 10 and under admitted free. Family activities include face painting, pumpkin decorating, and coloring stations.
Michelle Lorenz, executive director of the Byron Chamber, said, “One of my favorite events of the year. We’ve got a judges meeting at 8 a.m., and then fire up those stoves or grilles, whatever you are using.”
Gates open at 11 a.m., and then the chili serving begins after you are issued a sampling card.
“It gets you a sample for all the chili, and you take that card, and that’s your People Choice Award. So you get to choose which one you think is the best.”
