Illinois Reaches $120,000 Housing Discrimination Settlement With Coldwell Banker

CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Human Rights has reached a $120,000 settlement with Coldwell Banker LLC over allegations that agents discriminated against prospective renters using Section 8 housing vouchers. The settlement resolves eight charges alleging agents refused to show rental properties or told applicants landlords would not accept vouchers. Coldwell Banker also agreed to pay Housing Rights Initiative $105,000, provide fair housing training to more than 400 agents at four Illinois offices and adopt policies prohibiting source of income discrimination. Illinois law has prohibited housing discrimination based on lawful sources of income since January 2023.
