ROCHELLE – The Coyote, the premiere country-music radio station serving DeKalb, Ogle, and surrounding counties in northern Illinois, is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of only 50 nationwide finalists for the 2026 NAB Crystal Radio Awards. The announcement was made public Wednesday by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).
The NAB Crystal Radio Awards, first established in 1987, honor radio stations across the United States that demonstrate exceptional, year-round commitment to community service. From hundreds of entries, a panel of judges representing the broadcasting industry and community-service organizations selects 50 finalists, ultimately awarding 10 winners for their outstanding local engagement.
“As a small-market station deeply rooted in our community, we are honored by this recognition,” said Kris Wexell, Program Director and Operations Manager at The Coyote.
“This finalist status reflects not only the hard work of our team, but also the support and connection we share with our listeners across Rochelle, DeKalb and Ogle counties. We are proud to represent their voices, concerns, celebrations, and everyday life online and on airwaves.”
The Coyote has long focused on delivering more than music. Through local news coverage, public-service bulletins, outreach programming, charity support and active community involvement, the station has worked to strengthen the ties that bind the region.
This year The Coyote had the honor of being the radio home to the Illinois 3A State Football Champions, The Byron Tigers.
This commitment to service over mere entertainment is a key reason for its nomination for the Crystal Award.
The winners of the 2026 NAB Crystal Radio Awards will be announced during the NAB State Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in early March 2026.
