SYCAMORE – Sycamore police are reporting a rise in financial and bank scams that often start with emails appearing to come from known financial services. In recent cases, scammers spoofed emails to look like they were from PayPal, claiming an account error even when the recipient did not have an account. Victims are encouraged to avoid calling numbers provided in the emails, as scammers can quickly gain access to accounts or prompt fund transfers. A local bank recently assisted a victim and helped prevent losses. Police urge residents to talk with family and friends about scams and to contact the non-emergency line at 815-895-2123.
