Stellantis to Reopen Belvidere Plant, Add Thousands of U.S. Jobs

BELVIDERE – Stellantis plans to invest more than $600 million to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant to produce the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass for the U.S. market, with production expected to begin in 2027 and create about 3,300 jobs. The automaker, which operates 34 U.S. manufacturing and research facilities supporting over 48,000 employees, also said a midsize truck will be produced in Toledo, Ohio, alongside the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, adding more than 900 jobs in 2028. Additional investments across Michigan and Indiana will include large SUVs, next-generation Dodge Durango vehicles, and a new engine facility, part of a $13 billion expansion expected to create over 5,000 jobs in the next four years.
