Starved Rock State Park Undergoing $18 Million Trail Repairs, But Staying Open

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois will invest $18 million to replace and rebuild key trail features at Starved Rock State Park in LaSalle County, including new timber trail bridges and stairways at Tonti and LaSalle canyons, bridge and stairway replacements at the Lower French Canyon River Trail and Jacob’s Ladder, and boardwalk and bridge upgrades along the River Trail, part of a total $37.2 million improvement plan that also modernizes wastewater and water filtration systems, and while construction begins this winter and continues through 2026 with staggered closures, the lodge, park amenities and other trails will stay open with hikers urged to check trail conditions online before visiting.
