CHICAGO — November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month to recognize the nearly 15 million U.S. Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers. The observance is organized by the Alzheimer’s Association. The association’s latest figures show nearly 13 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, contributing more than 19 billion hours of care annually. President Ronald Reagan first designated the national observance in 1983 when fewer than two million Americans had the disease.
