Rochelle Water Tower in Running for Tank of the Year

ROCHELLE — A newly repainted water tower in Rochelle is in the running for Tnemec’s 2025 Tank of the Year, with one tank selected by public vote and 11 others chosen by a committee of water tank enthusiasts. The tower, whose repainting project began last fall, is part of a nationwide competition that evaluates tanks for design and appearance. Tnemec Company, Inc., based in Kansas City, Missouri, manufactures protective coatings and linings for structures and operates facilities across the U.S. and in Shanghai.

Rochelle City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh said the nomination was unexpected.

“I was pleasantly surprised when my colleague informed me that we were being considered for Water Tower of the Year for 2025. It’s great for the community and, you know, we’re up against some heavy competition. There’s some really cool designs out there, but to even be considered is an honor.”

The public can vote for the People’s Choice tank online, and the committee will select the official winner from the finalists.
