Rochelle Observes National Family Literacy Day

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council has proclaimed November 1, 2025, as National Family Literacy Day, highlighting the importance of reading and learning for families. Established by Congress in 1994, the day is recognized across the country with read-a-thons, book drives, workshops, and family activities at schools, libraries, and community centers. Literacy programs aim to help individuals gain confidence and achieve goals through reading, as one in six adults struggle with reading and writing. The proclamation also acknowledges local librarians, educators, and literacy service providers for their efforts in strengthening literacy in the community. Family reading night will also be coming to the Flagg-Rochelle public library on November 20th.
