ROCHELLE – The Roberts Armory WWII Museum will be open to the public today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can view a variety of World War II artifacts, including tanks, trucks, cannons, and newspapers from 1945 that feature photos of local residents who served during the war. The museum will also showcase the Higgins Boat, weather permitting. The museum is located about three miles from Illinois Route 251 and Intermodal Drive, with signs marking the route. Admission is free, and the next scheduled opening will be Memorial Day 2026.
Founder and Curator Chuck Roberts said, “There are two tanks, an M5 light tank and a very rare locust tank. There’s Alice Chalmers’ snowcat, several Jeeps, articles from World War II history, some sand from Iwo Jima and a rock from Adolf Hitler’s house.”
