REAL ID Required For Air Travel Under TSA Rules

SPRINGFIELD — As of February 1, Illinois residents flying domestically must present a REAL ID compliant driver’s license or state ID or a valid passport to pass through airport security without additional screening. The Illinois Secretary of State’s office says travelers without compliant identification may face delays and extra steps at TSA checkpoints. REAL ID services are available at full service DMV locations statewide, where applicants must provide original documents verifying identity, Social Security number, Illinois residency, and signature. Applicants receive a temporary paper ID at the DMV, but only the permanent REAL ID card, which is mailed within about 15 business days, is accepted for air travel.
