CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a bipartisan coalition of 24 attorneys general and the governors of Kentucky and Pennsylvania in a lawsuit challenging new federal Medicaid work requirement rules issued by the Trump administration. The lawsuit argues the rules unlawfully narrow protections for people with serious medical conditions and disabilities by requiring them to provide additional proof to qualify for exemptions. Raoul said the changes could cause eligible people to lose health coverage because of added paperwork and administrative barriers. The coalition is asking a federal court to block the rule before states must notify Medicaid recipients about the new requirements later this summer.
