Raoul Joins States in Opposing Federal Expansion of SAVE Program

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined 17 other state attorneys general in opposing the Trump administration’s expansion of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program, which would include personal information of U.S.-born citizens who have never interacted with the immigration system. The coalition said the expansion could violate the Privacy Act, expose millions to data breaches, and produce inaccurate information that delays benefits or wrongly flags individuals. The program is used to verify immigration status for benefits, licenses, and military service, and the changes would allow searches using Social Security numbers, passports, and driver’s licenses.
