Public Safety Remains Top Priority in Rochelle Budget

ROCHELLE — Public safety continues to take the largest share of Rochelle’s general fund, with the potential 2026 budget including funding for new police officers, a school resource officer, and fire department expansion. At a Rochelle Budget Workshop on Monday night, City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh said that general fund revenues are projected at $16.3 million, with expenses at $16.6 million, leaving cash reserves above $10 million. The city will also begin billing nursing homes for “lift assist” ambulance services. Staffing across city departments now totals 148.
