SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pritzker’s administration is identifying nearly 500-million-dollars in reserves to safeguard Illinois’ budget during economic uncertainty driven by the Trump Administration. The governor directed state agencies last year to identify up to four-percent of their 2026 budgets to keep in reserves. The order also directed agencies to begin limiting non-essential spending, purchases, and travel, prioritizing only essential roles for hiring. The announcement comes as the Trump administration reportedly ordered a broad review of federal funding to Illinois and more than a dozen other Democratic-controlled states.
