STERLING – The Penguin Project of the Sauk Valley will present Seussical Jr. November 14, 15, and 16 in Sterling. The theater program gives individuals with special needs ages 10 to 23 the opportunity to audition, rehearse, and perform a modified Broadway musical with the support of peer mentors ages 13 to 23 who have theater experience. The program allows participants to gain stage experience and receive guidance throughout the production. Kalie Conklen serves as the director of the project.
“By the end of this, when it’s ready for showtime, our actors have put in 50 plus hours with us, which is amazing.”
Kiley O’Brien of Rochelle will portray the Sour Kangaroo.
“I’d say this is more fun because I actually get to sing,” she said.
X’Zaviar Gabelhausen, also of Rochelle, is the Mayor of the Whoves in Seussical Jr.
“I like singing. Actually, I love singing,” he noted. “The first time I went out on stage last year, I was really nervous, but now I’m not that nervous.”Seussical Jr. will be November 14, 15, and 16 at Centennial Auditorium in Sterling.
