OREGON — Pavement buckling on Route 2 between Town Hall Road and Mud Creek Road north of Oregon on Tuesday slowed traffic. Yesterday afternoon all lanes heaved, causing drivers to use caution to get past the broken concrete. The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to begin work on repairs today. Pavement failures or blowouts happen when prolonged high temperatures cause the road to expand and buckle up or blow out, resulting in uneven driving surfaces. Precipitation and humidity increase the potential for buckling.
