Oregon Considers State Program to Fund Home Repairs for Low-Income Residents

OREGON – The City of Oregon may soon take part in a program that could help identify homes that need repair, and to help homeowners acquire funds for improvements. The Illinois Home Repair and Accessibility Program, funded by the state of Illinois, helps low- and very low-income homeowners make essential health, safety, and accessibility repairs. Homeowners can receive up to $45,000 for full repairs or $21,500 for roof-only projects through forgivable loans. The program supports aging residents and people with disabilities, preserves affordable housing, and covers structural, electrical, plumbing, code compliance, and accessibility upgrades. Future meetings could be held to not only provide more details on the program, but to train volunteers to help complete a survey to identify potential homes in need of work.
