No Charged To Be Filed In Death Of Winnebago County Jail Inmate

ROCKFORD —  No charges will be filed in the death of an inmate last year in the Winnebago County Jail.  Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley says corrections officers acted within policy when Ruben Yanez died from medical complications in June 2025.  Hanley said an investigation found no evidence that staff used force or acted recklessly in a way that contributed to his death.  A report says Yanez was hospitalized after he told medical staff he had injured himself in a suicide attempt.
