New Welsh Park Shelter Planned With $50,000 Grant

DEKALB – The DeKalb Park District has received a $50,000 Build the Future grant from the DeKalb County Community Foundation to help install a new shelter at Welsh Park. The manufactured shelter will provide shaded space for park visitors and can also be used as an amphitheater for musicians and a gathering space for community events. The shelter is expected to be located near the existing spray ground and shelter and restroom building, which will receive an electrical upgrade to support the new structure. The project continues improvements outlined in the 2018 Annie Glidden North Revitalization Plan. Previous improvements at Welsh Park include a new asphalt trail, playground, spray ground, rain garden and basketball and pickleball courts. The Park District plans to provide a dedicated performance space for Fun Jam musicians in 2027 and hold a movie event and concert at the site. Long term plans include weekly summer events and additional seasonal programming in the spring and fall.
