SPRINGFIELD — Illinois hunters harvested 51,409 deer during the first weekend of the firearm season, according to preliminary totals from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Local counts included 405 in Lee County, 446 in Ogle County, and 98 in DeKalb County. The seven day firearm season concludes Dec. 4th through the 7th, with additional muzzleloader, late winter, chronic wasting disease and archery opportunities to follow.
