Lead Line Replacement Plan Advances in Byron

BYRON – The Byron City Council reviewed a proposal Wednesday for Fehr Graham to manage loan administration and design engineering for a project to replace all lead and galvanized service lines, with costs expected to exceed one million dollars. Officials said project plan documents are nearly complete following a required public hearing on environmental impacts, and the city will apply in March for an IIllinois Environmental Protection Agency loan that could be partially forgivable. Bid documents were prepared for approval, with work expected to begin next year and finish by autumn 2026, a timeline officials said will improve the project’s readiness score. There could be upwards of a few hundred lines that require replacement in Byron.
