KIRKLAND — The Kirkland Fire Department will host its annual community open house on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kirkland Fire Station, 3891 Illinois Route 72. The free family event will feature fire safety demonstrations, a smoke trailer, face painting, children’s water fights, a car cutting display, and a helicopter landing scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon, weather permitting. Food and refreshments will be available, and visitors will be able to meet firefighters along with Sparky and Epi the fire dogs.
